Our Saviour's has a long history of involvement with the needs of the greater Tucson community. We support several ministries of care, social agencies, and individuals through our efforts and our finances. We believe this is a natural response to our faith in Jesus Christ.
Global Missions/World Hunger
Coordinates the sale of fair exchange coffee on our patio weekly, CROP Walk with Church World Services, Lutheran World Relief Handcraft Project, support for the Navajo Lutheran Mission. Also supports Becky Johnson - our missionary doing HIV/AIDS education in South Africa, world hunger appeals and mission festivals at Our Saviour's.
Habitat for Humanity
We support Habitat with both finances and volunteer labor.
Casa Maria Soup Kitchen
Our Saviour's provides regular food and volunteer labor for feeding the homeless.
Prince Elementary School
This public school in NW Tucson has a majority of its student population on free lunches. Our Saviour's has provided labor for groundskeeping, financial support, and tutoring. Recently we've become involved with the education and resettlement of Somali Bantu refugees and their children.
Primavera
A group of men from Our Saviour's regularly contributes food and volunteer work for feeding the homeless.
Advocacy
This is the work of being a voice for good policy for the poor and needy. Our Saviour's is a member of the Pima County Interfaith Council and supports its efforts on behalf of faith communities of Tucson.
Seasonal Baskets
These are collected for the poor at Thanksgiving and some key holidays. Usually several hundred are donated.
Women of the ELCA
Several contributions and efforts are made throughout the year by our women's ministry. See more in the Women's Ministry section.
Fair Trade
Our Saviour's supports the sale of fair trade goods which return the majority of the profits to the local third world producers. These include fair exchange coffee, tea and chocolate, as well as various craft and art items. Sold each week at 10:10am, on the patio between Sunday worship services, fair trade goods can also be purchased online through SERRV International.
Gospel Rescue Mission
Once a month the band from our Celebrations worship service, called "Twelve Measures of Interest," along with one of the pastors, goes to lead worship at their nightly chapel.
